first day & the friday funnies thought for the day
The first day of school was fabulous for all the kids. Tookie practically skipped and sang her way into school. Her teacher sent a note home saying she was comfortable with the teacher and classroom and but was concerned that everyone would have to have a "sleepover" at the school if it kept storming so hard.
After further investigation on my part I do believe it was more of a "hope" than a concern.
she really loved school.
Claire came home and reported to me that she helped out a younger in her classroom who was being bullied by a middle. I was so sad that this little kindergartner had cried on her first day of school but proud that Claire had stuck up for her. Especially since last year Claire was hanging with these girls who think it's cool to be as sassy as you can. My lingering thought about it all was that their poor teacher is already having to put up with all of this girl-drama-dynamics on the very first day of school. oy.
Marisa is feeling confident as one of the big dogs in elementary now.
And Nathan's first words to me after school was "i loved it". He was most nervous about lining up outside the building before school. He wasn't sure where to go at first so he wanted me to walk with him. About 50 yards from his door he sees some of his friends and turns to me and says "i'll be okay now". yes. he will be.
Oh yeah.....when we got out of the van all the kids gave me a "kissing hand" and got one from mom. When we got home everyone, EVEN NATHAN, said that they used their kiss from mom sometime during the day. Oh, my heart.
Right after the girls lined up and walked into the building I stood around and slightly sobbed.....but nothing too embarrassing. The music
So apparently, if you are known to cry every year on the first day of school for 6 years in a row someone will remember you in all your patheticness and may buy you flowers. How sweet. Mrs. Carter said that she was so proud of me for always being encouraging for the kids and that I don't crack until after they walk into the building. What a nice thing to say!
I spent the day yesterday with a few other moms and the kids' old preschool teacher. We ate and had some drinks and I forgot all about how I was supposed to be sad. Today is weird, though.
Today's quote is from an 8-year old boy answering the question, "How can a stranger tell if 2 people are married?"
